Series Story

"Slow and steady wins the race."

No phrase could be more true about this body of work. I have been forced to slow down to what feels like a snail’s pace. Rediscovering old art materials and a new normal in life. The pace has been difficult, but needed and well worth the reward of a completed series!

With new challenges comes, growth. Growth takes time and you don't always see it coming. Like these paintings working through the "ugly phase" and seeing how an image emerges from the abstract background. Waiting for that is hard, but just at the right time you can burst through into something beautiful.

Process

My process in this series has looked a little different. Starting each piece sitting on the floor. Watching the paint move with the water and seeing what organically happens.

Since, painting I haven't invested time in drawing, but bringing that back has made me be intentional with each pencil and brush stroke. Taking time to devote to each sketch. Whether thats the sketch in the beginning, getting the proportions right or the little sketches in the painting. All of these things have forced me to slow down, take time, and watch something beautiful come forth.
